WE PLEDGE TO IMAGE GENTLY & WISELY
Intermountain Medical Imaging proudly supports the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric and Adult Imaging, and its initiatives: Image Gently and Image Wisely.
What does it mean to “image gently”?
The Image Gently Alliance is a coalition of healthcare organizations dedicated to providing safe, high-quality pediatric imaging worldwide. The campaign is an initiative of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging, a partnership founded by the Society for Pediatric Radiology, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, the American College of Radiology and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.
The mission of the Image Gently program is to help raise awareness about the need to adjust radiation dosages during pediatric imaging exams, and to offer education on methods for doing so. For parents, pediatricians, radiologic technologists, medical physicists and radiologists, Image Gently provides information on pediatric imaging examinations—as well as protocols to reduce associated radiation doses.

What does it mean to “image wisely”?
Formed to address concerns about patient exposure to ionizing radiation during medical imaging, Image Wisely is a joint initiative of the American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, the American Society of Radiological Technologists and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.
Image Wisely offers resources and information to radiologists, medical physicists, other imaging practitioners and patients, with the goal of encouraging physicians to optimize the amount of radiation used in medically necessary imaging studies, eliminate unnecessary procedures and ultimately increase patient safety.

What should I know about radiation safety?
Before your imaging procedure, be sure to ask your referring physician and radiologist the following questions:
- Why is this test needed?
- How will the test improve my medical care and outcomes?
- Are there any testing alternatives that will deliver similar results without using radiation?
- Is the imaging facility accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR)? <>
- Are pediatric and adult tests at the facility delivered using the safest, most appropriate radiation doses?
